Overview

Bengable Savories, nestled at 17 Center St in Chatham, NY, is a gem for anyone seeking thoughtfully crafted takeout with a cozy, boutique café vibe. This small but vibrant spot has earned a loyal following for its standout offerings—chief among them, their quiche. Revered by locals and visitors alike, the quiches are generously sized, rich with flavor, and consistently fresh. They embody the heart of comfort food elevated by careful technique.

Beyond the quiche, the menu features a variety of savory delights that reflect both creativity and seasonality. Soft boiled eggs, fresh cherry tomatoes, and gazpacho offer light, fresh options that contrast well with the richness of baked goods. The egg sandwiches and daily frittatas serve as quick, satisfying choices for breakfast or lunch, delivering both nourishment and a sense of warmth.

The café atmosphere strikes a balance between intimate and inviting. Though indoor seating is somewhat limited, the space compensates with a cozy charm that encourages connection and relaxation. Outdoor seating expands the experience, making it a perfect spot for lingering over coffee or a light meal. The ambiance is enhanced by the friendly staff—Ben and Michael—who foster a welcoming environment that feels both homey and professional.

Speaking of coffee, it’s a crucial part of the Bengable experience. Using quality beans—likely from Stumptown—and serving real cream, the coffee here is robust and reliable. It pairs seamlessly with the buttery biscuits and pastries, which come highly recommended for both immediate enjoyment and take-home indulgence.

While the prices reflect the quality and care invested, many reviewers highlight the value in making a weekend morning feel like a special occasion. The menu and service cater to a range of patrons—from locals craving a dependable favorite to visitors wanting to savor a small-town culinary treasure. Bengable Savories offers a uniquely satisfying combination of thoughtful flavors, genuine hospitality, and a relaxed atmosphere that invites return visits.

Wonderful food, wonderful staff. Cozy, caring and comfortable. The reason you go to a coffee shop! Egg sandwiches are the best I've ever had. Their quiches and frittatas are pretty amazing too.

Far and away the best coffee in the county (and real cream for those so inclined), and the savories are delectably well crafted. Not inexpensive by any stretch, but worth making any weekend morning one of luxury.

Nice NYC boutique atmosphere, fabulous food, great coffee, just enough temptations to keep you there for hours in ruthless self-indulgence. The quiche is truly fabulous, the daily fritatta is a super-quick, budget-worthy upgrade to the quick-bite mission and the folks who run the place, Ben and Michael, are first rate, down home folks. When you find yourself hungry and in Chatham, don't miss Ben Gable's.

Small as it is, they pack a lot into this little cafe. The quiches are outstanding - the best I've ever had - and enormous,, and the andouille hash when its offered is great. I usually go for a biscuit - the jam they serve it with is excellent. If you're really hungry and like baked goods, go for the tartine with butter and salt - incredibly affordable for the quantity. Coffee is pretty standard - Stumptown I believe, and they are very generous with refills. Indoor seating is a bit tight, outdoor is more spacious., Service is friendly and consistent. I go there at least once a week.

World Class food in Chatham. My family has lived in the area for over 20 years and this is easily the best food you can find. AND the coffee is great too - they serve third wave roasts. The quiche is better than anything we had this summer in Paris... Fresh salads and delicious pastries.

Beautiful interior design and custom counters from local wood, etc. Warm, friendly service. We're so happy proprietors Ben and Michael chose Chatham for their new home and business! #SUPAYUM! :)
